Coordinated Care for Timely Intervention
Impacted teeth occur when a tooth fails to erupt properly due to limited space in the dental arch, abnormal growth patterns, or genetic factors. While wisdom teeth are the most commonly impacted, canines and other teeth can also be affected—particularly in developing patients.
Management of impacted canines often involves collaboration between a periodontist and an orthodontist. Depending on the case, treatment may include surgical exposure and bonding to guide the tooth into position, or extraction if alignment is not feasible. Timing is critical and procedures are carefully coordinated to align with the patient’s developmental stage and orthodontic plan.
At Menominee Advanced Periodontics & Implant Center, each case is thoroughly evaluated. Dr. Elnagdy reviews all clinical findings and discusses the treatment plan in detail with the patient—and their family when appropriate—to ensure clarity, comfort, and confidence before proceeding.
Post-Operative Care
Following surgery, patients may experience mild swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with:
- Prescribed pain medications
- Ice packs to reduce inflammation
- A soft diet and limited physical activity during initial healing
Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is essential to prevent infection. Patients should follow all post-operative instructions and attend scheduled follow-up visits to monitor healing and adjust orthodontic appliances as needed to guide the tooth into proper alignment.
